Moving = No Internet

Having limited internet sucks, as any of us know. I know this now, because I went from 768k/bps cable to... Zilch. I suffer from the age old problem of having 7 modems, 2 of them actually installed in a P-II/233 linux server, and not a single one of them PCI, which is what my windows box requires. EVERY one of them is ISA. Amazing, I think. I have enough parts laying around to build quite a few computers, except for hard drives.

My first thought was to simply format the HD of excelsior, cityscape's linux server, and put Windows 98 on it. My brother in law is on dial-up, he's kinda weird in the head about internet. He uses Juno Platinum, instead of a real ISP, so I can't use his PPP connection through the linux box, and simply serve that to my windows box. He used to have cable, but feels some strange justification to 'use' it all the time, as if the extra 20 dollars means he must be online all the time, which he never is, or set his computer to download massive amounts of warez and pr0n which he deletes without viewing. People have weird views about high-speed internet. I look at it like this: Your paying more because the 2 megabyte flash movie you want to watch takes 1.5 minutes, not hours, to load. Not because your supposed to sit on it continously.

So, maybe I'll be on. Hopefully. If not, I'll be on shortly. Within April.
