MUSH Documentation Project - Revisited?
Submitted by Ender on Sun, 2008-03-16 22:24.I'm putting this in the Community topic because I think this would be an excellent community effort.
In 2001, Walker and others decided to try to do something. Called the MDP, or MUSHCode Documentation Project, the idea was to start give advice, help, hosting, and other services to a new game. The catch? Everything you do, every system, every decision, is documented for others to learn from.
When I was giving my talk, I was thinking. This never really worked. But maybe it'll work now. Even if it doesn't, another failure won't hurt anyone.
So, here's what I'm going to do:
Well, hell, I gave a talk at a picnic!
Submitted by Ender on Sun, 2008-03-16 19:20.I gave a talk about Player Relations, and what it means to me, at the picnic tonight. For those of you who attended, TINY TACOS. Its sorta like Chunky Bacon, but less gem like.
When the log is up, feel free to read, and leave comments on either Elvira's WP6 post or my own post on this.
ASpace and Me
Submitted by Ender on Sat, 2008-01-12 11:27.So, I'm hosting aspace.pennmush.org for qa'toq and the general PennMUSH community these days. Mainly, I remember what it was, did some "dev" work for upgrades to 1.7 (hacks, I assure you...), and now work on a showcase MUSH for it.
My own MUSH has the bleeding edge "I better remember to svn upgrade tonight" source for aspace on it, as well.
Aspace Renovations
Submitted by Ender on Sun, 2004-01-11 15:19.Working with the people over at Star Trek: A New Age, we're adding little bits and peices to ASpace. I've upped the version number to 1.1.1, since its capable of running on p26 and above (The attribute problems are no more.)
I'm also adding channel reporting of events such as ship disablement and destruction.
Others are adding MySQL support, and something called JoseyEcon.
I think this place will work out, at least wiz-code wise. I wait to see what else I can do.
Thankfully, the people at M*U*S*H can translate my rantings into usable questions.
Shattered Dreams, Dark Horizions
Submitted by Ender on Tue, 2003-07-08 23:01.I think I have the slowest development staff in MUSH history. And for this, I am thankful. They're taking their time, doing it right. Globals systems, thematics, everything is being hammered out now, before the first room is @dug, so that nothing needs changed.
Company Webserver
Submitted by Ender on Fri, 2003-06-20 11:28.Well, its happened. My company's webserver is live, on the net. Now, the most important aspect as its server administrator... How to get past the damn SSL bug in PennMUSH.
Strange New Worlds Revitalization
Submitted by Ender on Sun, 2003-04-06 18:55.For those of us who track such things (MUSHes turning over new leaves), the ancient and somewhat venerable Strange New Worlds TrekMUSH is converting from 1.5.8pl6 to 1.7.7, with completely new softcoded systems, and HoSpace.
I wish them luck, very few of them know how to HC, or SC past 1.6.4 :)
Manolevent Conspiracies
Submitted by Ender on Sun, 2003-03-30 04:17.This entry is a very long one. It is about a MUSH I played on, and discuses what happens when a real manolevent conspiracy takes place, how it affects a game, and what the end result of all conspiracies which use force against a playerbase find...
Moving = No Internet
Submitted by Ender on Sat, 2003-03-29 22:56.Having limited internet sucks, as any of us know. I know this now, because I went from 768k/bps cable to... Zilch. I suffer from the age old problem of having 7 modems, 2 of them actually installed in a P-II/233 linux server, and not a single one of them PCI, which is what my windows box requires. EVERY one of them is ISA. Amazing, I think. I have enough parts laying around to build quite a few computers, except for hard drives.
