2 - Abandonware?

In nearly a month, Javelin is the only person who has contributed to this web-book without prompting from me (Mike @ M*U*S*H has been very helpful online! Thanks!).

As a result, I'm getting the impression that there isn't much interest in this. So, I'm opening this chapter to discuss abandonware status of this project (if I'm the only one actually interested in it, I think I'd rather pursue graphical MUDding).

Please contribute your thoughts (if another month passes without comments here, I'll interpret that as a sign).

This book is so obviously "yo

This book is so obviously "your baby" that I don't think you can reasonably expect other people to contribute significantly. Particularly as it's a more or less settled fact of MUSHcode that reading someone else's code and modifying it is pretty icky. :)

obviously

So, now that I'm considering abandoning it.. What are your thoughts about this with reference to Public Domain?

... and to all a good night!

I'd keep it under your BSD-li

I'd keep it under your BSD-like license, which provides plenty of freedom for anyone who wants to take it up or fork it, extend it, re-release, etc.

Epilogue (Thx Luke!)

This is going to be my final comment about the state of this project's development. There is no forethought or preparation in what I write in this comment, it's just my 'gut feelings' about it.

I worked on the manifest for about five years before before ever applying myself to an 'official module'. Yes, I tinkered around with installers in a previous life, but even those became somewhat (although not completely) obsolete almost as quickly as I wrote them. After a lengthy hiatus into Real Life (tm), I returned to discover, much to my surprise and elation, that a tremendous amount of the theory was still valid... and from that, I began anew on this project - applying myself to the task of 'getting it out there'.

I scavenged the rudamentary pieces of code from where I had left things and now there's actually something 'out there' for you guys to tinker with, look at, admire, criticise (hopefully constructively), and most importantly... USE. And I hope you'll at least consider doing that much.

Try a piece of this stuff. If it works for you, come back here and share that experience. If it doesn't work for you, come back here and explain why... and maybe suggest something to make it more useful.

Meanwhile, I'm going to take a step back and give this (what I've done so far) a chance to ripen... and start cleaning up (i.e., updating to current codebase, and adapting to better code designs and conventions) my older code ... with the full intention of eventually putting as many 'toys' here as I can (you all like toys, don't you?).

Find peace within yourself and share as much of it with others as you can.
