Imitations of Life

Just a little personal plug... I have a new blog at katharyne.com/blog

Do check it out, I'm using it to write about elements of hyper-reality, and anything else that screws with notions of reality. It's fun :)

Phishing from 'register@pennmush.tinymush.org'

This should go without saying, but in case it doesn't, I recently received a phishing email allegedly from "register@pennmush.tinymush.org" which included some zip file I'm supposed to open to confirm details to them, and a bogus "no virus found" line in the email message.

Obviously, nobody from the Penn devteam is going to be asking anyone to confirm any private information, etc. If I did have any reason to want to communicate with a user about something personal, I'd sign it with my gpg key. If you get something like this, it wasn't from us.

c.p.o downtime next week

There will be some community.pennmush.org downtime next week (probably Monday Feb 20) while the server hardware is replaced with something less ancient.

PennMUSH in Debian

I'm very pleased to announce that Pennmush 1.7.7p38 is now a part of both testing and unstable releases of Debian Linux on all officially supported architectures. This means that PennMUSH will also be in the next stable release of Debian, Sarge, which is planned to be released within the next month.

www.pennmush.org downtime

www.pennmush.org (which is also ftp.pennmush.org and mush.pennmush.org) has been freezing up lately. Until I can work out or work around the problem, note that community.pennmush.org is on a different host, so if you can connect here, but not there, it's probably frozen. (When I notice it frozen, I can remotely reboot it, but I may not notice right away, of course).

Sorry for the inconvenience.
