The Road to Amber
The Road to Amber is a roleplaying MUSH based on the Amber novels by Roger Zelazny. We aim to imitate the pulp fantasy feel of Zelazny, his contemporaries, and fantasy authors of the pre-Tolkein, swords-and-sorcery era.
The game's setting is at the end of the second novel, The Guns of Avalon, and we welcome everyone, including those who haven't read the novels, as well as veterans and newcomers to MUSHing alike. (And since the books are very short, and you need to read one, or two at most, it's pretty easy to pick them up and read them, if you want to.) It's easy to create a character, and you can play almost any concept that fits within a fantasy setting.
Our Four Design Principles
- All characters are awesome.
- Conflict mandates choice, which leads to change, which creates story.
- The currency of play is Things to Do, and Interesting Meaningful Things To Talk About.
- Drama and play creation trumps realism.
We embrace the principles and many of the techniques of story gaming (external link). Our world is cinematic, character-driven, and, for the most part, player-owned.
