Arts Festival on M*U*S*H: June 2007
M*U*S*H (mush.pennmush.org 4201) has designated June 2007 as a mush-wide Arts Festival. Artistic expression is a key component of M*U*S*H's theme.
We're looking for as many MUSH players as possible to exhibit, display, discuss, or perform something that uses MUSH as a medium for artistic expression: hold a poetry slam, display your writing or ascii art in the Art Museum, organize theatersports or other improv activities, etc.
Interested players should create characters at M*U*S*H and can @mail Javelin with the details of their activity (what date(s), time(s), content, format, if there's any maximum or minimum audience size), or can post directly to the M*U*S*H calendar with +gda (See: +gda/help create). Offerings will appear on +gda and on the Festival Events bulletin board (+help bb). I'll also post about them as they're scheduled as comments to this story on c.p.o.

PIGLet rescheduled, June 7, 8pm
The PIGLet Presentation has been rescheduled for this coming Thursday, June 7, at 8pm (Central US).
Sorry for short notice, but on the bright side... It will be given via the holo-projector, so if you miss it you can see it afterward at your leisure. There will also be a log.
p.s. the Pueblo client is not supported for this particular presentation. TinyFugue and SimpleMU work well (as to probably most others).

MUSH as Art - Potential for Profession
As a followup to something I had mentioned on M*U*S*H around the time that I re-posted the announcement of this presentation, I feel obligated (to those who might have had aspirations along these lines) to convey this useful information about MUSH as Art.
Just as I was about to abandon the development of this project in May, something wonderful was brought to light. This project (PIGLet) qualified (legally) as art work. However, in order for it to qualify as a sponsorable project (and thus, tax deductible for the fundors), certain criteria must be met.
1) It must be sponsored THROUGH a government-acknowledge art organization (we were looking at the Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa to fill this void). This allows government oversight of the project's funding (e.g., Joe Donor gives $N,000.00 to ACME Art Center as funding for Jane Artist's work - ACME Art Center establishes a grant in Joe Donor's name, awarded to Jane Artist for N months/years, etc. yada yada).
2) Within N years, the art project must produce tangible profitability for the artist in some way, or it reverts back to 'hobby' status.
Because of some serious and tragic misunderstandings about development rights and responsibilities combined with the bureaucratic nightmare of applying for all this 'government mandated processing' (#1 above), I am no longer developing the PIGLet project at all.
On the bright side, I did do some of the initial legwork for those of you interested in the notion of MUSH as Art at a professional level.
And...
I will be writing a "Works Under Development" version of the WARPEDcore license to hopefully prevent the tragedy which happened to me from happening to others. This version will make a distinction between two types of installations: a) an installation which you download from a public distribution point, and b) a development version maintained by the softcode author. I honestly believe a clear distinction between these two types of installations is necessary, not only for the MU community, but for all programming languages at all levels, in order to protect a developer's right to maintain his own work in testbed situations without interference from others.
Happy MU-ing.
The Grand Masquerade, 5pm June 30, by Elvira
Can you do magic? Comedy? Dance? Act? Sing? Ventriloquism? Hypnotism? It doesn't matter if you can't, as long as you can put together some kind of skit! We need acts for the weird and wonderful end-of-arts festival party. Think mysterious, Victorian, vaudeville, spooky, creepy. Or just a little odd and most of all, entertaining. Just give it a go - you can change your name, your costume, be who you want to be for just one night. If you want to take part and need ideas or help, talk to Elvira, otherwise just let me know if you want to take part. It'll be a night to remember!
