And I felt something ought to be done for folks who, like me, simply want to get into it with a few easy-to-understand tutorials.</p> <p>I THOUGHT about using my blogger to post such articles, but my audience there, doesn't really even care that I know about this stuff. And besides...people who WANT to look for tutorials are gonna come to the source of the server software first. And besides...you can't really post questions on the Google Code site, so here is the best bet.</p> <p>Now then, a disclaimer: I am NOT the best coder. Every time I look into a Penn dev's example code, I ALWAYS get overly confused because they use certain functions and tools that I don't always think of using, or did not know about. Such as recently, I FINALLY discovered the v() function as well as @function, @attrib and others. And as my most active project doesn't use any of those...well we'll just say that the systems I came up with work, and they work fairly well, but my game is so massive, that it'll take a bit to weed out and fix all of them to be more "conventional." Another example...that JUST came in. I did NOT know about the lnum() function!! Muaha! Thanks, Cheetah.</p> <p>So correct me if I make any weird mistakes. I just want to give others like me a little more hope when they search for various ways to do things.</p> <p>Okay so maybe not. 'Mercutio says, "...fold() is like a rite of passage."' I totally did not even KNOW that function existed, and now I'm beating my head over it and trying to make sense of it. It does seem to feel that way.</p> <p>But what bothers me, is that those in the hobby, seem to be okay with this. </p> <p><b>I'm not.</b> I love this hobby. Its greatly impacted my life, and gave me friends that I've held dearly for years, all over the world. One of my best friends met his wife through mushing. Mu*s have provided me with some of the best role playing experience, I've ever had. </p> <p>I've started to research into role playing pod cast, to see if I can find a few that would be friendly and appropreiate for them to host a segment on Mu*ing. </p> <p>I feel encourage, by Javelin TinyTalk podcast where the class of forth graders, were very eager and excited by mu*ing. Would you be interested in attending a coding class? (Or in running one?) Is there anything in particular you'd like to see a class run for/about? A few things that come to mind which may (or may not) be of interest to some people:</p> <ul> <li>Softcoding basics (for people who have never softcoded, or have just started)</li> <li>Intermediate Softcode (for people who know the absolute basics, but haven't written things of much complexity)</li> <li>PennMUSH Tips and Tricks (slightly more recent and/or advanced features in Penn, like #lambda, @message, etc)</li> <li>Hacking the Hardcode (for people with at least basic C knowledge but little or no knowledge of the PennMUSH internals)</li> <li>Installing and Using Space Systems</li> <li>Regular Expressions in MUSHcode</li> </ul> <p>No guarantee that I (or anyone else) will run any of these, but if you're interested in seeing a class for one or more of these subjects (or, indeed, for something else (Penn)MUSH related), please post a comment here and say what, and how experienced you are with MUSHcode/programming in general.</p> </div> <section class="field field--name-field-blog-comments field--type-comment field--label-above comment-wrapper"> </section> Sat, 10 Sep 2011 17:39:58 +0000 talvo 963 at https://community.pennmush.org
